Prince Henry of Wales KCVO is to marry Miss Rachel Meghan Markle, on a date likely to be in May 2018. In honour of the lucky couple there is to be Port tasting, for us loyal subjects and for a few friends not so blessed.

The theme (‘Port Fit for a Duchess’) has been chosen as echo of Port Fit for a Queen, on the occasion of Her Majesty’s reign exceeding that of Victoria.

Black Tie?

Various details to follow.

In principle, yes please.

However, please make sure it's not a date in May on or before the 9th since I will be running around like a headless chicken organising the BFT.

Should we pick a date now, accepting the risk that it might be a little early or late. ¿Tuesday 22nd May 2018?

Not half term; currently free in my diary. The proposed date works.

Should we attempt to meet in Windsor?

Looking at the diary / tasting calendar, could we move this forward to 15th May so as to leave 3½ weeks between this tasting and the "Any 8" tasting?

The date for the wedding has been set as Saturday 19th May, perfect timing for us to toast the happy couple.

Should we offer the groom the opportunity to join us for his stag night?

Count me in..

I still have two bottles of Ch. La Lagune 1978 that once belonged to the groom's great grandmother. I also still have various bottles of VP that belonged to that lady's brother's grandson, who was the official photographer at the groom's mother's wedding..

No real interest in the circumstances that have given rise to this tasting but for the sake of the Port consider me in.

Last time your ignoring of your principles was less grumpy.
idj123 wrote: 12:33 Mon 11 May 2015Whilst I would not consider myself a Monarchist, Port drinking wins out and so please put me down for this tasting. Not sure whether the theme allows for duplicated years-it it does, I will bring a D60 or if not, a FG64.

No, you are quite right, I should try to be less of a humbug (although I do have more time for HM than the wider issue) :D

The monarchy is a quaint anachronism. However, the argument for retaining it is amply summed up in two words:

While happy with the principle of a black tie affair, mid-week logistics makes this more difficult than I would like. I prefer not.
