Wed 19th April 2017 - A Short Notice Enquiry

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

I can't claim that it's an emergency when I know a week ahead that I will be in London, but if anyone else finds themselves in London on the evening of Wednesday 19th April and would like to get together at the B&F (or an alternative venue if one is suggested) then please say so here.

If a quorum is formed, the theme would be "Bring a bottle of port to share". Note that this does not necessarily mean vintage port...

I believe there are trains between Liverpudlium and Londondinium. Therefore your "excuse" is considered feeble and unacceptable.

Please come up with a better excuse or I will be forced to open a Nacional 1963 that evening to illustrate why an advance purchase ticket for the train would have been the better option than staying at Our Mam's B&B on Park Road.

Excellent, we have a quorum. The NN63 will only be opened if DRT is not available.

I would very much like to join this tasting, regardless of the bottles that are brought, but will need to confirm after the Easter weekend to firm up the childcare for young Zachary. I will of course be trying to explain the possible opportunity of tasting a NN63 to my port widow ;-)but fear it would have the same persuasive effect on Rosie as would a bottle of Cockburn Special Reserve (with all due respect to a fine basic ruby) :-)

Please mark me as tentative and I shall update asap.

I fear this is a self-defeating threat. Logically, at this point, DRT should remain in Liverpudlidinium on the 19th and take one for the team so that his fellow tasters have the opportunity to experience NN63. They would certainly thank him at every opportunity, likely with shared Port.

But, as an honourable chap with no wish to see my good friend duped into opening an NN63 unnecessarily (or without me present  ) I am happy to declare that I might be able to attend and will confirm one way or another well after the time by which an NN63 should be decanted.

The private room at the B&F has been booked. 5 is probably comfortable, 6 a squeeze, 7 will mean moving to a different room.

It seems my child care situation has been resolved most satisfactorily, so I should be there to share some lovely port [and the marvellous NN63 if Derek can't make it]. Blind or sighted are both good for me...just let me know.

As nobody has definitively revealed, we seem to be blind by default. Or unblind thyself.
