Sat May 27, 2017 London stopover [cancelled]

Post by Glenn E. »

My wife and I are traveling again (this time, a Barcelona -> Rome cruise) and so have the opportunity for a stopover in London on our return home. It does seem that Saturday evening might be difficult, so I thought I'd ask before actually purchasing plane tickets.

Would there be any interest in a gathering on Saturday evening, May 27, 2017? That is Memorial Day weekend in the US.

Saturday? Maybe. No plans as yet for me.

But we never do Saturdays (unless somebody is laying on 45+ bottles of 50-year-old Port).

I am highly unlikely to be in London on a Saturday but I have a bottle of 1964 that belongs to you and would be happy to get it to somewhere in advance of your visit so that you can pick it up.

Alas, I will not be carrying 45+ bottles with me during the trip. Unless something dramatic occurs and I am able to take over the inventory of a very small, very exclusive Italian Port Shoppe in Rome.

Anyone else possible? We likely would not make our decision based on the ability to pick up one bottle of 1964, seeing as delivery through Alex via DHL, as expensive a proposition as that is for a single bottle, would likely be cheaper than a difference in airfare. (Though of course there's always the possibility that travel through London will be the least expensive option...)

I would love to catch up with you for a tasting Mr. Tawny, but although that weekend maybe possible I cannot commit at this stage, especially as it is the Saturday of a long bank holiday weekend. Either way, I hope you have a lovely trip.

Seems like a bit of a stretch, so I'll have my wife go ahead and get whatever's cheapest. If that still results in a London stopover, I'll make sure to let everyone know just in case anyone is free!

If you do route through London then please do tell us. I may be free, but June is going to be a very busy month for the family and me so it is a fairly low probability that I'll be able to meet up with you in London on a Saturday night.

That's a pity. Where have you decided to go?

Our flights are on Delta through Amsterdam, with only enough time to change gates on the way through. We tried to set up an opportunity to at least have dinner in Amsterdam, but it would have raised the ticket price and also would have involved earlier flight times than I am willing to suffer. :(
