The New Douro Event - Soho- mon 7th Nov 2016

Post by Doggett »

Is anybody going to the Douro Event in Soho on the 7th November.

There will be Niepoort, Churchill's, The Symingtons amongst lots of others exhibiting port and wine.

Here is the link... It is from 5pm until 9pm and is £20 a ticket or 4 x for £60. There is also a trade element from 11 until 5pm that it might be possible to attend instead if connections are known. If anybody is intending going or fancies it after looking at the link, let me know as I hope I could get a pass.

Simon, I'll also need to check but I could be up for this. Anyone else so that we can save a fiver?

I should be OK for this...I can arrange the trade part through The Port Society if anyone is interested in 'early doors'.

I am now not going to be around to do this event in the evening, but would still potentially be interested in going to the trade showing during the day if anyone is able to swing it.

My excuse is a good one...

As it looks very unlikely I will be lucky enough to attend the :tpf: Novel tasting, I have decided to take advantage of a tasting I have seen that will be hosted by Christian Seely at Hedonism wines on that evening (Mon 8th Nov) instead. Below is a link and the details (also listed is a TFP tasting this Friday I could be persuaded to go to too!)

Mike/Ian...do you fancy this as a preview to the :tpf: Novel tasting, or maybe meeting up after the two separate events that evening?
Cookie - I am around during that Monday if you fancy some company for the Douro event?

Simon

Quinta do Noval - Hedonism Tasting https://hedonism.co.uk/tastings/wine-an ... -tastings/

Monday, 7th November 2016, 6.30 - 8.30pm
Hosted by Christian Seely

Quinta do Noval is truly a name to conjure with when it comes to fine Port. Established in 1715, the property is currently under the able management of Christian Seely, famed for his work with Château Pichon Baron in Bordeaux. Unusual in their declaring of two vintage wines, Noval's most famous bottling is the near mythical 'Nacional', which is made using grapes sourced from a tiny enclave within the Noval vineyards composed of un-grafted old vines.

Christian Seely will present the tasting, which features 3 different vintages of Nacional including 2001, 2011 & 1997. Guests will also sample Quinta do Noval 2003 & 2011 & Quinta do Noval 40YO Tawny.

Tickets to this very special event are £150.

It looks like I'll be in London on the 7th. I'm planning a wine dinner menu in the early evening but might be able to be free about 8pm for an hour or two. I won't be far from Hedonism so could meet up in Mayfair/ St James.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

A catch up after the hedonism event would be lovely. It will be great to talk about the Nacionals whilst very fresh in my mind! Any thoughts on somewhere to meet?

I'm still up for this although not the trade session unfortunately, as can't spare the time. Haven't yet bought a ticket but assume that this will be on a single basis as there doesn't appear to be sufficient numbers of us for the group discount. Mike/Ray-are you still planning on attending (the evening session)?

Simon (Alex), assuming others are still up for this (may not traipse into London if it's just me) then potentially don't mind meeting up later in the evening.

Let's see how many people will be around - and whether you could be dressed in lounge suit (or equivalent).

It transpires I will be required elsewhere on Monday so will not be making it to the Douro event.

I managed to make it there late afternoon and I think Ian managed a visit in the evening. It wasn't a great venue, but there were a lot of producers in attendance and quite a few 2014 vintage ports on show.

I will write up my notes, but I'm struggling for time at the moment.

This year's event takes place next Monday (6 November 2017). I'm intending going for the evening session as despite the odd location (basement of a record shop) I did quite enjoy it last year. Tickets a little dearer than last year but still represents value. Link below:
