If we are going to attempt sticking to the date... I would suggest the option of Bar Douro and having Max join us with a bottle too. I have been there with Mike, and couple of times since and think it is a great space, really good food, and obviously understands Port lovers. That said, if the date moves I hope to make it for whenever it works best for people (it would be good if Phil could make it with his stay of execution).

Ps. I take it Jdaw is sourcing Imperials of Sandeman 70 rather than the mag to make up for the balls up :-)

Seconded, especially as I can't make the current date!
Works for me.

idj123 wrote: 13:35 Fri 10 Nov 2017Have you tried contacting some of the other Davy's establishments we've used in the past? Ignore Mike and Simon, I for one would like to stick to this date :D
No, i haven’t, but this is peak work Christmas-party season, and if we aren’t known, and aren’t refused, promises of glasses will not be honoured.

Incompatible with 07:45 work.

DRT wrote: 18:54 Fri 10 Nov 2017If we held the tasting in Bournemouth it might solve both of those problems.
I will let you know when you’re being helpful.

PhilW wrote: 19:42 Fri 10 Nov 2017Well, it seems your options are to either change the venue, or change the date. Since people may have made arrangements already, changing the venue seems like the better choice (and AHB has provided some decent suggestions). If, on the other hand, you were to change the date... the Tuesday would look good for me ;)
You seem to be suggesting a small change in date, rather than a large change in date. B&F say Ovens is available Tue 28th and on 29th Wed; Red Room available Wed 29th. Team: choose.

I now recall what happened. When this tasting was created the attempt to book a room was rejected, because it was too far in the future. And I failed to make a diary entry nudging me into booking. And now it’s too late. All rooms taken for that date.

What should I do?

I’m going to make an executive decision for Wed 29th, failing cogent objection by noon Tuesday.

The only day that week which I can make is the 30th. If the date changes, I will have to drop out.

Sorry people, I forgot to book the room. This is being shifted to January.

I’m really sorry about this. Really am — I was looking forward to it.

I am likely to be either having or recovering from knee replacements in January so my place should be given to someone who can walk from the tube station to the B&F :(

Hope the op goes well and you’ll be sprinting to the B&F from the tube next time!

ok. If that means there is now no tasting planned that week, perhaps I should start a new one (on Tue/Wed)?

Gave this some similar thought regarding access to B&F cellars while using taxis post-op previously, and whether we might at some stage need to consider an alternate venue with better/ground floor/lift access. Hope it all goes well for you.

Indeed. My surgeon advises that there might be period when I don't have a leg to stand on. But later I might be able to run, jump, club mountains and attend port tastings in places with cellar rooms. :D

Clubbing mountains to death would be particularly heroic. Do wear a cape.

Perhaps he will be visiting the latest trendy nightspot - Club Mountains - though whether their dress code allows capes...
