NYC 1985 retro

Post by differentdave »

Was wondering if there was any interest in doing a 1985 retrospective on this side of the pond. I can host at my house on Long Island or take the lead on booking a location in Manhattan if its easier for attendees. Was thinking early to middle December. I have about 5-8 different houses from 85 so I can also provide sourcing for people who may want to come but dont have 85 vintage port in their collection. I am also posting this on the other port wine board to maximize possibility of this happening.

Thanks,
David

G-Man and Sushi North & I had discussed this long ago. The issue for me will be December--just too busy a time of year. January much better.

I have a Ferreira, Souza, Grahams & Fonseca.

Different Dave!

Long time no see, and I like the initiative.

I expect to be in NYC for the holiday season (mid dec to early jan) and would be interested in attending should a suitable date be found. Preference would be Manhattan, but I'm open minded. Also have some friends that might be interested - 85 is a nice mix of" available / cheap-ish / drinking.

Bulk of my port is in storage, but I should have some 85 Dow, Fonseca, and Grahams to hand.

Hope all is well and I look forward to catching up sometime soon

woo woo

There are some 85's at Wine Bid if anyone is so inclined...the usual suspects.

the palm tribeca is willing to do a byob pre-fixe if we buy the corkage worth in wine off their list.

it'd come out to 80-120$/person (depending on whats ordered)

We can certainly split it out to two different tastings

perhaps one with chris and then a separate one with john?

either way, I haven't seen either of you in a long while and it'd be fun to catch up.

Chris, can you post dates in Dec you are free

and John could i trouble you to do dates in Jan?

and you two can fight it out who wants to do a 85' horizontal more.

I can also suggest that perhaps we do a 91' symington line up as having just recently had the TFP 92's i'm curious as to who made the correct decision!
i have the cockburn and the vesuvio 91'

G-man thanks for inquiring about the Palm I followed up with Pete as he did not realize I was aslo involved. He will get back to me later this week about updated arrangment and he may even try to work theday of our event. Time and finances may preculde me from attending both events. I will be bringing plus 2 to the 85 tasting more than liekly so it looks like we have enough people. Chris let us know what date(s) work well for you and we will lock in a date.

Thanks

If you are going to do 12/17 and another tasting I would assume you'd rather go into late January/February for the 2nd....so January 23, 30 or 6th (Super Bowl is the 7th if that matters)

When I lived in New York there were lots of unambiguously organised tastings.
