1927 Martinez

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled by JG Thompson of Leith. Very pale, the colour of honey. Very oxidised on the nose (the cork was rotating as the corkscrew was applied) with lots of rosemary. Light and reluctant on entry with little flavour other than some brown sugar water. Gentle burt sugar finish offset by some grapefruit acidity. Pleasant, but nothing special and certainly not what it should or could be. 83/100. Drunk 24-Sep-14. Decanted 5 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Mz27. Alex liked this more than I did. Colour cloudy orange. Nose described as “acidic yuck”. Where I should have recorded a taste is blank — either the nose so awful that not tasted; or tasted and a decision was made to spare posterity the horror.
