1996 Quinta da Romaneira

Tasted August 2004:
Bought this for 18,50 euro.
Beautiful deep dark purple colour, with a bright pink rim. It smells very fruity: plums and cherries. There is a smoky edge to it. The taste is full sweet, very round and soft, with sweet fruit (jam of plums). Good integrated, but firm tannins. Slightly racy and a bit green in the end. Medium finish with some light, sweet fruit. All in all, this is a very nice port. IMO it lacks some freshness and could do with more body, but who's complaining at this price? Drink it now, or within a couple of years, and you'll have a beautiful glass of port! I will definitely buy more of this.
