1976 Graham Malvedos

Post by winesecretary »

Bottle in excellent condition, level well into neck, no signs of seep.

+ 30 mins. Largely orange wine, good legs. Odd slightly acrid nose. Even sluicing it though the teeth it's hard to find much fruit. Some Sevile orange. Nuts and heat on the short dry finish.

+20 hours. Nose even more acrid than yesterday. Tastes broadly similar. Tobacco coming to the fore late middle. Drinkable, just, but not with any great pleasure; it might end up becoming the next deglazing port.

Not corked, not oxidised, no obvious bacteriological fault but still 'wrong'. Having now checked back on previous notes on this wine some variant on this appears to be the overwhelming conclusion. This was a single bottle acquired as part of a mixed lot a couple of years ago; I am pleased I do not have more.

Tasted 30/1/21-31/1/21
