Tasted on 30/07/20 as part of the Quevedo white port tasting hosted by Oscar Quevedo, the BFT and VWP.

My taste buds were still sad from having to wash away that lovely very old white port. Lets see if this LBV can make it better!

A dark red which is pretty 'run-of-the-mill' colour for LBVs of this age. The nose is on the quiet side with a small fruit (mainly blackcurrant) tingle with a smidge of aniseed on the side. In the mouth is a very easy drinker, nothing too tannic or strong but a decent acidity on the way out. Fruity, jammy blackcurrants just dominate here but this taste doesn't last long. The longevity is certainly not a cardinal sin in my book and is a good port to have with my dad who prefers to 'down it' rather than appreciating a port... or anything.

Maybe a few years in the bottle would help, but I fear than the longevity in the mouth might only deteriorate with time. Either way, I'll happily drink this now.
14.5/20

Notes: Opaque purple in the centre; red on the rim. Strongly grapey nose with intensive dark fruit like a young vintage port. In the mouth, less fruit-forward than I would normally expect. Some green notes. Fresh light fruits, some flowers and low acidity and tannins. Would be interesting to compare to other LBVs and see it age.

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are rated against others of their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port which I rate as C for Certainly good, might not be as good as a Vintage Port which receives the same rating. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
