2014 Fonseca LBV (unfiltered)

Post by akzy »

Tasted on 30/06/20 for online Port tasting #8. + Tasted over 3 hours from opening.

Quite a dark Port - not quite as dark as some other LBVs of similar age however. The nose of this is weak - terribly so. Really struggling to pick anything up. I was hoping for a nice little fruit punch as is typical for these LBVs. In the mouth, theres a decent bit of heat behind it, but again, I'm really struggling to pick anything up maybe a little bit of mint. At these levels, I feel anyone can taste whatever they think of. The lingering taste is a bit better bit of cherry and (a bit too) bitter orange.

I'm hoping (for Fonseca's sake) that either I'm off today or this bottle is a duff. I don't think it is.

I should have a decent amount tomorrow for an update.

Today a nose has appeared! A bit of fruity bouquet but far less so than I'd expect of an LBV of this age. The mouthfeel remains the same before. On the palate, the mint has dissappeared to be replaced by vanilla. The lingering bitter orange on the way out remains.

I do hope time improves this but I fear not. Should have plenty left for the coming days - this should indict my feelings for it.

No change from yesterday. A weak showing lbv, but still not a bad drink. 10/20.
