1960 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2020)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Sample bottle filled 2020. Very hot year with picking starting early in the second week of September, but with a period of cold and wet weather during the harvest. 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Barroca.

A lovely russet colour with a touch of dark olive brown in the tone; 40% opaque. A lovely fresh green leafiness to the nose, honey and toffee but balanced without being too sweet. Thick and sweet on the palate, gentlely caramelised but well balanced with subtle tones and flavours peeping out from the caramel. An incredibly intense aftertaste, thick black syrup flavours and a very, very long finish of caramelised orange. Amazing length finish, so intense, lasting many minutes. 93/100. Tasted 17-Jun-20.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
