1991 Quinta de la Rosa

Post by winesecretary »

Decanting sample taken after 30 mins, 12/4/2020. Red wine, 10% orange rim. Prickle of heat on the nose, slight red jelly bean note, otherwise dumb. On the palate, blackcurrant leaf, sour cherry mid palate, slightly attenuated but attractive spiced cranberry finish. Will leave to open out until tomorrow.

Consumption resumed following evening, 13/4/2020. No darker than yesterday. Some cut mixed citrus peel, marinated in rosewater, on the nose, but still 'light' by port standards. Subdued raspberry fruit on the front palate, marzipan on the mid palate, cranberry and sour cherry on the medium length finish. Dry at the end. Delicious.

If I say this port is 'modest' that is no criticism. This is a very fine light fruity port. While there is no hurry it is, on this showing, fully ready to drink. But respect its idiosyncrasy as previously reported by AHB: it still absolutely requires a 24hr decant. A bit boring without, delightful to drink with.
