2016 Quinta da Gaivosa

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Alves de Sousa. Deep red, just transparent at the centre. Fragrant redcurrants on the nose; smooth and sweet soft strawberry fruit on the palate. A lovely structure but the fruit is sweeter and does not have the purity of the 2017 vintage. Very ripe tannins, very sweet fruit and a nice peppery aftertaste. Perhaps this lacks a little acidity for the long haul, but it has a delicious sticky fruit that makes for a lovely wine. 91/100. Drunk 29-Feb-20. Decanting time N/K.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
