1955 Taylor
At the house of a friend, D, on my trip to upstate NY this last week. With green lead foil capsule over black wax seal. Provenance: purchased in the 1980s and well cellared; moved to its current location, a perfect cellar, in 2000. Cork came out whole with the aid of a Durand. Decanter's sample tested on opening. Nose of warm violets, palate of violets and cherries and chocolate, the finish warm, but not hot, and long sustained. A ravishing port. I had to restrain myself from drinking the lot in advance of the dinner guests arriving. Served at D+4hrs, darker and with more cherries on the palate. A minutes-long finish. Comfortably the best port I have had this year. Consumed 21/10/19.
