2011 Quinta do Jalloto

Post by rich_n »

A very local producer that we came across rather by accident as we were in Pinhao on a beautiful sunny but not too hot day and decided to find an estate with a good view. Having located Jalloto on the map, we hiked the (rather steep and sometimes treacherous) ascent between their estate and the Quinta do Bomfim. Having tried their regular wines, which were nice but nothing spectacular, I requested a glass of their 2011 vintage port. I found it to be rather lovely, very easy drinking. Strawberries and red cherries alongside milk chocolate on the nose, giving way to black and red cherries on the palate. Not a huge tannic structure but smooth and extremely drinkable. Well worth the hike up from Pinhao for a port I doubt I'll see anywhere else (and for the view)!
