2016 Valriz
Unusually for young vintage port, this wine was not opaque. Gentle Parma Violets infuse the nose, sweet and slightly powdery at first but moving to be an astringent (and still powdery) blackcurrant with a little swirl. Modest bodied entry, with the astringent blackcurrant and powerful acidity dominating. Dry on the late palate with the fruit showing well, leading to a lingering blackcurrant finish. This is modest port, elegant and gentle, which will bring drinking pleasure for 2-3 decades. 87-89. Tasted 12 September 2018.

Vr16 Deep ruby red, slight purple on the rim. Sweet raspberries on the palate, well balanced with the bite of acidity. A very nice port that maybe lacked a wow factor to push it further up the pecking order on the night. One to watch though.
