NV Calem Tawny 10YO (bottled 2015)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Dark amber orange colour; 50% opaque. Some bruised orange on the nose with some off-putting chemical plasticiser. On the palate this is sweet, round and full of toffee. Yet the sweetness is held in check by generous apple acidity and a tobacco spiciness. A powerful aftertaste of almond and a little heat, which settles into an orange marmalade finish with a good length. This is very enjoyable, and has softened and become rounder with the extra bottle age. 87/100. Drunk 9 Jul 2018 at the IWC awards dinner.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
