..but I wasn't going to let eleven bottles of near century old port go for just £850 hammer.

So I bid £900 - and won the lot..

Have looked at the bottles for the first time today, and the lot description didn't do them justice. All the bottles have perfectly intact wax capsules, and the colour looks promising. The worst level is on one of the '22s at low shoulder - not below low shoulder as billed. Only one of the '24s shows seepage (not two) and that's very minor.

- But who's the shipper?
So a few (THRA JDAW CPR IDJ) gathered, and were joined by more (DRT MPM), to test the mystery 1922 bottled by Robinson & Payne.

T66. Dark red, 60%, glorious colour. The palate very long, but quite light early and mid. Good red-cherry fruit: this is still a lovely top-table Port, but (at least this bottle) showed lighter than typical for T66.
