From a half bottle. Mature rose red in colour with an opacity of around 40%. Initially suffering from a touch of volatile acidity, but this blew off with enough time in the decanter to allow a bouquet that was distinctly spirity to show. Very different on the palate. At first tasting powerfully of red licorice, but with more time in the glass the red licorice faded a little to also allow aniseed and bitter blackthorn to show in the flavour profile. Surprisingly big and flavoursome on the palate. The aftertaste is a little hot, but the finish is full of aniseed. Overall this is a little dry, light and thin in texture, a little one-dimensional dominated by the aniseed but not a bad drink, despite all of that. Don't leave it too long to drink up any half bottles of this port you have in storage, they are on the downward slope and drying out. 84/100. 11-Nov-17. Decanted ½ hours.
