2015 Alves de Sousa

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

The first vintage in which both a Gaivosa and an Alves de Sousa vintage port has been released. Deep red colour with a medium rim. A gentle nose very similar to the Gaivosa blend. Less elegant and less refined entry that the Gaivosa, showing more tannins and less initial fruit. A pleasant mouthful of port, dominated by the tannin. Much more robust in style and one to age for longer. The lovely sweet fruit shows clearly on the aftertaste and finish. This is made from grapes sourced from both Quinta da Gaivosa and Quinta da Oliveirinha. 90-92/100. 06-Nov-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
