2000 Warre Colheita (bottled 2016)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

On offer at the BA lounges (Concorde Room, First and Galleries South) at Heathrow Terminal 5.

Bottled 2016. Deep mahogany brown colour with a chestnut brown edge; 70% opaque. Warm treacle on the nose, sweet but spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. Initially a touch hollow but fills nicely on the mid-palate, which nicely delivers a good level of acidity to support the black treacle and walnut flavours. The late palate is dominated by burnt orange zest. A slight burn from the acidity lights up the aftertaste and leads to significant heat on the finish before settling to a long burnt toffee finish. This is pleasant enough, but a bit heavy and clumsy on the palate. 86/100. 29-Aug-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
