1963 Sandeman

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A bottle cellared for most of its life in Vila Nova de Gaia and opened for home drinking; the cork was branded "Vintage 1963 Recorked 2007".

Mature brick red in colour, distinctly brown toned; 40% opaque. Spiced Canadian raisin pie on the nose, smelling warm and inviting. Smooth on the palate at first, bringing generous raisins, dried fruit and brown sugar. Lots of heat and pepper on the mid-palate with plenty of acidity keeping a sharpness and focus to this mature port. The caramelised redcurrant and aniseed finish is elegant and long lasting. This port is light and nimble on its feet — a delight to drink. 89/100. 17-Aug-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
