1994 Quinta do Noval

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at a Blind Emergency on 1st August 2017.

Deep red colour with an opaque centre and a wide rim. A touch of bottle stink at first, which mostly blew off over the course of the evening. Hollow entry, showing a little bit of baked fruit but overall the impression on the palate is of a port which is restrained and lacking fruit and balance. The fruit which eventually shows has to be coaxed with a lot of air and is black fruit over black chocolate tannins. These combine to give a big, chewy finish with lots of black chocolate and dried cherries. This is deep and dark, promising much for the future but is currently very closed. One to decant for at least 36 hours if opening today! 83/100. 01-Aug-17. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
