1987 Warre Cavadinha

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Incredibly dark considering this is 30 years old. Dark red but with a touch of brick if the edge is inspected closely. Sour cranberries on the nose and a touch of rock rose combine to make the mouth water with the sweet and sour effect. Intense flavours on the palate, huge amounts of fruit and a powerful acidic backbone that delivers a good balance, hints of more complexity to come with additional age but today this is very dominated by the fruit. A warm rose hip glow lingers in the mouth, slowly turning to a red licorice that persists for several minutes. This is a lovely bottle of port, much improved from the last time I tasted it 3 years ago. 89/100. 05-Aug-17. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
