1997 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep garnet, intensely coloured; opaque. A lovely nose of blackcurrants and rock rose, sweet and delicious. Fruit and flowers on entry, lots of acidity balancing the intense blackcurrant. A huge mouthful of flavour, and so smooth. The aftertaste shows a flash of coffee and esteva. Some heat on the late aftertaste from the alcohol before a huge finish of delicious, sweet fruit. There is so much fruit that the tannins still don't show! Some 1997 ports are on their plateau already - this is not one of them. 92/100. 16-Jul-17. Decanted 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
