Tasted at the Night Before Bastille Day tasting on July 13, 2017.
Deep red, looking rich and opulent; opaque. Spiced nose, lively and with a lovely sweet bramble fruit. Round and smooth entry, slightly lacking in fruit at first but the palate fills out beautifully with a little patience to give a mid-palate that is full of the sweet bramble promised by the nose. The dry tannins combine with the fruit to a great feel to the wine. The gentle tannins give the aftertaste a gentle coffee tone, and slowly relax to allow a deep, sweet damson finish to linger on the taste-buds. This is a nice and rather youthful port with many years ahead of it. Daniel's last contribution to a port tasting before his move to Sweden the following day! Served blind, this was guessed to be Fonseca 1985. 88/100. 13-Jul-17. Decanted 8½ hours.
