2000 Quarles Harris

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted alongside the very impressive Cockburn 2000.

Dark crimson with just a hint of ruby on the edge; 95% opaque. The nose developed over the course of the 3 day decant but was still very muted hinting at Mediterranean pine forests. Quite aggressive on the palate, reasonable amounts of fruit but a very powerful acidity. The fruit develops nicely to deliver lots of strawberry and even some redcurrant. Quite thin in texture, but quite loud in flavour and acidity. Lots of strawberry on the aftertaste and a good length. This feels slightly out of balance so I suspect that a little more time in the cellar will do it some good. 85/100. 30-Jun-17. Decanted 3 days.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
