1997 Krohn Retiro Novo

Post by RonnieRoots »

Tasted in December 2004:
Dark concentrated red colour with an almost black core. Turning to pale pink on the rim.
It smells very sweet with jammy plums, dark chocolate and a creamy touch. No apparent alcohol.
Lots of dark fruit on the palate, with mainly blackberries and (caramelized) plums. Sweet and smooth, but also red peppers to add some spice. Medium bodied and fierce tannins. The finish is a tad green and bitter (hops), but also shows nice black fruit. A very nice port for the mid-term. I was very pleased with the way it showed in this stage, I expected it to be more closed. 88 points.
