1937 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2017)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at the Factory House on the occasion of The Port Forum's 10th Anniversary dinner. Bottled in 2017, shortly before the dinner.

A lovely smell of pistachio paste and walnuts, with hints of dates and figs. Delightfully thick in texture on the palate with good acidity and ghostly tannins that combine to give a delicious coffee and quince impression. Coffe dominates the aftertaste and slowly changes into a finish full of bitter-sweet candied citrus peel. Simply delicious.

A second bottle served to the other side of the table was very different, being richer, sweet and more full (and slightly preferred). 95/100. 21-Jun-17. 3½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
