1977 Taylor

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

On 11th May 2017 Taylor Fladgate held a dinner in the New Armoury of the Tower of London to celebrate their 325th anniversary. Two ports were served at the dinner, one was this — from an imperial. The other was the Taylor 325 Anniversary Tawny port.

Deep red with a brick edge to it. Gentle nose of soft strawberry jelly with just a hint of eucalyptus. Mature fruit shows on the palate, sweet and plentiful but with a youthful dryness and ghosts of the tannins which once dominated this port. Late on the palate comes more red jelly and red licorice. The aftertaste is dry and full of alpine strawberry. The finish lively and spiced, showing dry licorice root and hints of tannins; great length. 93/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
