1994 Martinez

Deep red colour, opaque centre, no bricking but no youthful purple. Interesting on the nose, sweet fruit but with a slightly stewed tone that is not unpleasant but is distinctly odd. Fruit forward on the palate with plenty of sweet purple plum and brown sugar. Nice levels of acidity but very little tannin showing on the palate. Soft, slightly chocolatey aftertaste and a modest finish. Pleasant port, but way below the level of quality that this promised on initial release - but may still be out of balance and closed and just in need of a few more years. 87/100. Drunk 08-Apr-17. Note taken after 48 hours in the decanter.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
