1908 Cockburn

An unknown bottle opened at home to thank a friend for some advice received on the BFT turned out to be a bottle of Cockburn 1908, identified from the branding on the cork.
The colour of acacia honey, a deep russet; 30% opaque. A lovely smell, sweet fruit sugar like raisins or dried dates but with the spicy overtone of cloves. Exquisite on the palate, smooth and satin-like bringing bruised apple and multiple layers of flavour. Delicate and balanced this was initially a little dried out but put on colour, weight and flavour with time in the glass. Full of golden sultanas and coffee bean giving a lovely complexity. Massive bitter-sweet orange marmalade aftertaste and an immensely long coffee finish. This is fabulous port. 96/100. Drunk 27 Jun 2017.
