2015 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1,000 cases produced. Deep purple-maroon, inky and dark; opaque. A classic Vesuvio nose, deep and brooding, full of fragrance and sweet blackcurrants if slightly restrained. Slow developing entry with masses of blackcurrant that fails to hide the powerful tannins. I love the complexity on the palate that is built around the core of the sweet blackcurrant. Sweet and sticky blackcurrant fruit dominates the aftertaste, the sweet sticky fruit dominates the long sticky, fruity finish. The finish is immensely long.

This is the sweetest of the four SFE 2015 vintage ports shown at this tasting. A more powerful and burly style of Vesuvio than previous vintages. 93-95/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
