1967 Taylor Vargellas

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in Oporto in 1970. A deep burnished copper colour, 60% opaque. The alcohol protrudes on the nose, but is contained by an attractive caramel and all spice that is quite delicate and refreshing. On the palate this is balanced at first but develops heat on the mid palate. The caramel from the nose is accompanied by tobacco, wood ash and a fierce dose of acidity Very hot aftertaste, but this yields to a long fiery lip-tingling finish of chewing tobacco. Difficult to fairly score this port given the unfortunate extended decanting time brought on by this bottle featuring at a Charity Auction Port Event. 87/100. Drunk 01-Mar-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
