W55. 40% opaque. Like so many others, dry, and mid-palate, very dry. Gentle sweetness throughout, with mint and spearmint.

30% opacity, mature brown-red, amber rim. Menthol and molasses on the nose. Smooth, syrupy, sweetness although fruit dry and extracted.

Bottled by Grants of St James. Bronzed red colour, 50% opaque. Modest nose with gentle fruit but a slightly harsh overtone. A pleasant texture on the palate but the flavours are modest with faint tannins and a gentle balanced fruitiness. This has faded to elegance but with a generous rose perfume. The aftertaste is delicious and is where the fruit reveals itself. Sticky on the finish but with the slightly harsh element showing before the dryness grabs the edges of the tongue on the finish. This is elegant and refined, and nearly in the same class as the best of the 1955 vintage ports at this tasting. 92/100. Drunk 06-Apr-17. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
