1977 Gould Campbell

1977 Gould Campbell (Magnum)
An oversize crowd—possible because the bottles were all Magnums and Tappit Hens—gathered on Wednesday 1st February 2017 at the Boot and Flogger, to taste these large-format 1977s.

60% opacity, dark red. Dried fruits, rich and sweet nose, some toffee. Soft entry, fruit and tannins along the palate and just enough acidity. Great balance, red fruits - strawberries. Got 1 point from me.

Deep red appearance, youthful and dark; 90% opaque. Little on the nose, some slightly sour cranberry which drifts gently up from the glass. Deeply flavoured dark fruit backed by powerful acidity that, on balance, makes the palate slightly bitter. Very concentrated on the palate with a lovely balance, big and powerful. The aftertaste and finish are dominated by fragrant fruit which delivers a sweet and lingering length. 95/100. Decanted 3 hours.
