1946 Sandeman

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

The cork was branded "Vintage 1946 Recorked 2015". Deep burnished gold in colour, around 50% opaque. Gentle VA on the nose over a deep and over-ripe orange. Enjoyably thick in texture, this was lively and a touch fiery on entry. Fuller and richer on the palate this never loses the pepperiness. The sweet dates and blood orange dominates the mid and late palate the acidity asserts itself well and never allows the balance to be lost. There is a big citrus and orange aftertaste with some slight tannic hints before a big and lovely finish. This rarity is a lovely port. 92/100. Drunk 14-Dec-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
