1962 Harvey

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

The shipper is not known, but this vintage was shipped at a time when Harvey's were closely linked with Martinez and Cockburn so it is likely to be one of those two shippers. The cork was simply branded "Harvey's 1962 vintage port". Sourced from a German collector.

Burnished redwood in colour; 60% opaque. A touch of VA shows on the nose and dominates the smell of the wine. Fortunately the VA blew off after a few minutes to leave a lovely brown sugar syrup and red fruit flavoured entry. This was followed on the mid palate by a wonderful melange of Christmas fruits and spices - with sweetened cherries, fattened raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of exotic orange juice. A touch of tannins shows a bit of pepperiness on the aftertaste before a fabulous finish of power and persistent ginger biscuit lingers for a long time. 90/100. Drunk 14-Dec-16.
