1994 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A bottle taken from one of the concrete bins in the old olive press at Quinta do Vesuvio, stored in the dark but at ambient temperature in the upper Douro.

Deep red, 99% opaque but slightly bricking on the edge. Warm nose of strawberry ice cream. Nice strawberry entry with sumptuous fruit backed by generous tannins. Lively and fruity but slightly baked. The powerful acidity drives the aftertaste and leads to a tasty chocolate and black cherry finish of great length. This is a delicious port which can be drunk now or over the next 30 years. Served blind this was guessed to be Vesuvio 1994. 95/100. Drunk 25-Sep-16. Pop 'n' Pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
