???? Unknown Colheita

Unknown Shipper and vintage colheita
An ullaged bottle, sealed with an old style sello, so bottled 1930-1970. No other clues were available from the unbranded cork or from the bottle (which lacked a label).

Deep brown in colour with a wide green rim, slightly hazy. Delicate and fresh on the nose, although reluctant to show anything. Some patience and coaxing brought out some pistachio paste - typical of a colheita. Sweet and delicate on the palate initially showing a little light clover honey. The wine puts on weight on the palate with some powerful lime acidity creating focus but despite this the overall wine is unbalanced. The aftertaste is hot and of good length, the finish dominated by burnt sugar. 84/100.
