NV Sandeman Tawny 20YO

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Served by the glass at the Don. Burnt butterscotch in colour, a lovely deep amber. Served slightly too warm this produced an attractive nose of pistachio paste and heather honey - a nice combination of sweetness and floral elements. Beautiful balance and texture to the entry, rich and smooth delivering sweet caramel and searing concentrated orange acidity. There is a delightful layering of flavour on the palate but the acidity makes it hard to be patient with this wine in the mouth. A huge, honey-based aftertaste and finish with a lingering bitter rosehip right at the end mixed in with the butterscotch. 89/100. Drunk 10-Nov-15. Decanting time N/K. Served at the Sandeman 225 anniversary celebration.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
