A lovely red-cedar colour, clear and glowing in intensity; 50% opaque. A gentle nose of sugar cane and fresh dates, sweet and inviting. Burnt sugar on the palate, sweet but with a lovely bitter core that keeps this well focused A little straightforward with no fruit to be found, but lively and elegant and with powerful flavours. The aftertaste is dominated by heat, with the burnt sugar and bitter lemon peel lasting for a long time on a great finish. Now in a tawny phase, but a very powerful wine. 90/100. Drunk 27-Sep-15. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
