D70 was a close second on the night to the N50. I spent more time drinking and enjoying this port than writing notes, but recoded powerful fruits, a big taste and a strong if slightly hot alcohol finish. The D70 was still youthful in colour and I think this bottle would have lived on for years more. A great wine and my thanks to Derek for sharing on my first :tpf: experience.

For what it is worth, I tasted a D70 at the BBR Six Decades of Port Declarations event on St George's Day 2015 and that bottle had a more tawny look and taste, with strong fruits coming through and a long smooth finish.

D70. Nearly-mature red, 50% opaque. Full and big, but quite dry. Actually, too dry. The size pushed me to 1970, the dryness to Dow, and—snugness!—that is what it was. Actually the taste was drier than Dow 1970.

As snug as a smug bug in a rug.
