2000 Pocas

2000 Pocas Junior
Hidden in the cellars of the Mizen Head Hotel and only available by special request of the owners. Nicely evolved colour with no youthful scarlet and 90% opaque. Sadly dominated by bottle stink (but this blew off completely over the next couple of days) on the nose at first. Gentle sweet, slightly baked, fruit on the palate - full of strawberry jam. The tannins are firm, dry and slightly green; still surprisingly powerful. Medium bodied with a bit of heat on the aftertaste then a green tannin led finish of fresh nettles. Long and fine, deliciously chewy. Showing the lack of poise and balance that is expected in a teenage port but with plenty of promise for the future. 87/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
