1997 Sandeman Vau

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A double magnum opened as an experiment for home drinking. As an experiment, it failed. By the time I finished the last decanter of SV97 I was thoroughly bored of this port. It was my one and only DM from this vintage.

Lovely deep red with just a hint of maturing brick. Lovely nose of deep cherry and charcoal. The fruit dominates the palate with good concentration, supported by gentle dusty tannins. Lots of fresh, sweet red cherry fills the aftertaste and lingers on the tasty finish. Nice port. 89/100. Opened 04-Jul-15. Note taken after 7 days double decant (and stored in a cool room).
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
