2012 Barao de Vilar

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep purple in colour, opaque and with a very narrow rim. Somewhat subdued on the nose showing a little hedgerow and forest fruits. Nice texture in the mouth, very smooth and with good poise. Soft, slightly fat fruit wrapped around a core of acidity. The tannins are soft and well balanced with the whole, giving a nicely constructed impression. Late on the palate there is a lovely perfumed tone. The aftertaste is sticky and full of perfumed blackcurrants. This is a lovely and elegant port. 90-92/100. 06-May-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
