Hello,
I recently inherited some bottles of port from my parents. The port was kept in my mother's cellar on its side until we brought it upstairs where we kept it in a rack in a cool cupboard.

I am based in near the city in London and would appreciate any advice on valuation and how best to go about selling them.

The bottles are:
  • Two bottles of Sandeman Vintage Port (Jubillee) 1977
  • Two bottles of Fonseca 1975
  • Two bottles of Gould Campbell 1977
  • Croft 1977
  • Fonseca 1977
  • Grahams 1977
  • Fonseca 1977
  • Taylors 20 year Old Tawny 1991?
  • Taylor’s 1970
  • Delaforce 1977
  • Fonseca’s 1977
  • Gould Campbell 1977
  • Smith Woodhouse 1977
  • Fonseca’s 1977
  • Fonseca’s 1977
  • Warre’s 1970
  • Fonseca’s 1977
  • Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas 1972
  • Dow’s 1975
  • Dow’s 1977
  • Fonseca’s 1975

Your 1970 and 1977 bottles are excellent. The others are less desirable.

As you are near the City perhaps you should contact a wine merchant such as Uncorked or Hedonism and ask if they want to make you an offer?

You can get an idea of value by looking at www.winesearcher.com - the prices shown there are retail and mostly exclude tax so add about 20% to get the actual price. In a private sale you should expect 50-60% of the retail price.
