Grande Hotel de Paris (Porto)

Post by benread »

Stayed here 28th May 2010.

This hotel is situated on the Porto side of the river, very close to the Sao Bento train station. It was recommended to me by another TPF member and at EUR150 for 2 rooms (1 twin and 1 tripple) including breakfast was perfect for our requirements. It has a certain old world grandeur about it, without managing to suggest its 2* rating is doing it a disservice! It is however clean and comfortable with 24 hour security and only 10 minutes walk to the Ribiera area - the waterfront bars etc.

The really quirky thing about this hotel is all the random old artefacts, such as typwriters. There were about 10 old typewriters outsid emy room!

As the trains to Regua and Pinhao depart from Sao Bento as well, it was an ideal location.

For those coming from the airport, a raxi should cost you around EUR25 depending on traffic. The metro is much cheaper at around EUR2 but involves a change to get to Sao Bento from the airport. With 5 of us, a taxi won the debate!
