Graham 1972 Colheita

Post by Axel P »

... will be the next release. Tasted it at ProWein, but had nothing to write with me. Quality alike the 1969.

Excellent news for those of us from 72. Any idea of release dates and price points, Axel?

No, just released, but I would guess around the 69 pricing.

Should this thread be titled 'Graham 1972 Single Harvest Tawny'? I'm not being silly; if it's the name of the wine, it should be the name of the thread.

Was't 1972 the time when port was being fortified with a mixture of gunpowder and the waste from the motor industry? OK I exaggerate but surely the problems with the spirit will afflict any port made in this year?

If there was a vote, I would vote no.

There isn't a vote. That's why I'm more confident that good sense will prevail.

I don't believe that today's IVDP would pass a wine that had been adulterated with industrial alcohol, and I don't expect that Charles Symington would have tasted such a wine and thought, "Hmm, must release this to our top-range clientele."

You can't it was a UK (and EU??) release only, like the '52 and the one from the 80s. Oh, and the 2009 Warre's VP too. We get left out of all the specials except for the special Six Grapes, which we got only.

Is that apart from the special Six Grapes cases which were shipped to the UK, one of which I was able to acquire?
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Must have been a mis-shipment on DHL's part. LOL

An issue with continued releases only to one particular location would be the potential risk of angering their long time loyal customers in other locations, which generally isn't a good thing for a companies long term business. In that regard I hope this is Port is released to a larger segment of their customers.

I bought a 6 pack of the Six Grapes Special. It's a great reserve wine, much better than the regular Six Grapes although I have not had them side-by-side. I am not a fan of the regular Six Grapes.

But what it isn't is a single Quinta VP, yet that's what they're charging for it.

I would say it's closer to a good Crusted Port since it's a blend from several different Quintas :P
